1.   Define Primary memory?

ë  Primary memory also known as main memory where data is stored for quick access by the computer’s processor

ë  When the task is performed, the Control Unit makes the space available for storing data and instructions, thereafter the memory is cleared and the memory space is then available for the next task.

2.   What are the difference between RAM and ROM

RAM

ë  It is a volatile memory

ë  In this memory the contents are erased when the system power is turned off.

ROM

ë  It is a non volatile memory

ë  It can retain the stored information even when there is no power.

3.   Explain about the following memory?

a)    Hard disk     b) Pen drive

Hard disk:

ë  It is a data storage device and for storing and retrieving information using rapidly rotating disks coated with magnetic material.

ë  It is a fixed disk in the system.

Pen drive:

ë  A pen drive is a Portable Universal Serial Bus (USB) flash memory device for storing and transferring audio, video and data files from a computer.

ë  Pen drive is small in size.
