Answer the following
1.     What is first aid?
The medical assistance given to an injured or sick person for immediate relief is known as first aid.

2.     How will you give first aid to a fire victim?
ë If a person’s cloth catches fire immediately  throw a rug or blanket and wrap it together to cut off oxygen supply.
ë In case of slight burn, wash the burnt area well.
ë Apply antiseptic cream.
ë Cover the burnt area with sterile bandage.

3.     In case of fracture or sprain, what precautions should you take while waiting for the doctor?
ë Stop bleeding
ë Apply pressure to the wound with a sterile bandage or clean cloth.
ë Do not move the injured area.
ë Apply icepacks to reduce swelling.

1.     What treatment would you give to a person suffering from heat stroke?
ë Put the person in a cool place.
ë Give him lots of oral rehydration solution (ORS) at regular intervals.

2.     What is the role played by health centres in the welfare of a community?
ë The doctors and nurses educate the people about the ways to prevent diseases.
ë Vaccination and immunization programmes carried out regularly.
ë Various health camps are organized.
